MY JOB: My goal is simple—to create the most important tool you’ll ever have for making a first impression in casting: a great headshot. You need to look engaging, charismatic, confident, and, most importantly, castable.
As an actor myself, I bring years of experience from audition rooms in Vancouver. I’ve met all the local Casting Directors and have a solid understanding of their preferences. I’ve also built personal relationships with many Talent Agents and even worked as a Casting Director for independent films. This blend of experiences gives me a unique perspective on the industry, and I’m excited to share that insight with you. During your session, we’ll discuss your goals and craft headshots that specifically align with your needs.
YOUR JOB: It’s crucial that you understand the roles you and your agent are marketing you for. A headshot isn’t just a good portrait—it’s a visual representation of you that appeals to Casting Directors and Producers. Chat with your agent beforehand to ensure you’re both on the same page about your image and brand. If you’re currently unrepresented, seek advice from your acting coach on where you might position yourself in the local talent pool. Together, we’ll create a headshot portfolio that will catch the eye of casting professionals and agents.
DURING THE SHOOT: Come ready to have fun! The best headshots come from actors who are prepared, relaxed, and open to being expressive.
Professional hair and makeup is available as an option, especially for female actors. If you’d like, I can arrange for a makeup artist to be present, but you’re also welcome to bring your own artist, do your makeup yourself, or arrive with it already done.
While I primarily shoot indoors due to the unpredictability of Vancouver’s weather, I can also include a mix of studio and outdoor shots, weather permitting. My studio is located in North Vancouver, near the seabus terminal, and is easily accessible from the #1 highway if you’re driving.
If traveling to me is tricky, I can come to you or shoot at a location of your choice, subject to a travel fee (see rates below).
AFTER THE SHOOT: Once we’ve wrapped, you’ll receive an online proofing gallery with all our shots. If you have an agent, mentor, or coach, you may want to gather their input. The gallery allows you to share the images and create favorites lists. After you’ve chosen the shots you want, I’ll retouch them and provide you with the final files for both print and online use.
Overall, it’s a painless and fun process! If you have any questions or are ready to book a session, shoot me an email at: matlofilm@gmail.com
I look forward to meeting you!
Mat.
